So I’m headed to Round Top, TX
The rooms are booked, and the shopping list is growing, I’m headed to Round Top Antiques Fair at the end of March! If you spend any amount of time with me you will quickly discover my love of vintage and antique home décor. Saying I ‘always’ have seems like a broad statement but taking several minutes to have a think of my first encounter I find it hard to pinpoint. So where did this love start? I think possibly in childhood, as the dresser my sister and I shared was a piece my mother received from her grandparents. As luck would have it, through various moves and rearranges, the dresser landed with me on vague terms of it not being completely in my “permanent collection” but more of a visiting exhibit. In other words, Mom still reserves first right of refusal while I enjoy its presence in my keeping room. I know she reads my posts, so I have to be transparent here. I’ll still get a phone call but at least it will be to laugh, and I won’t have to make a dated editor’s note.
Let’s connect more dots on my nostalgia for old objects. In addition to their connections to my familial past, acquiring vintage items ticks a few more boxes for me: Emotional connection to my surroundings, the story the pieces tell that I can share with others and a sustainability aspect that quality, well crafted pieces get continued care and use. Aesthetically I also find the use of vintage very grounding and softening in a space. Yes, of course, new is fantastic for so many items and often the correct solution to customize to a client’s needs. Custom can also pair really well with a client’s existing heirloom piece or a newly acquired vintage piece to give the space some depth and history which in turn gives a sense of longevity as well. That is what I ultimately love to achieve in newly designed spaces, the feeling that it has always existed and will continue to exist and serve my clients well in living the best versions of their lives. This ties in with the emotional connection we have to our surrounding spaces and the story it tells about us and the lives we live. Because what is someone’s home if not a visual storytelling of their life and interests?
So! With my love of old and storytelling tools in hand I am setting out on a long-awaited Texas furniture adventure! Having got a taste for the thrill of the hunt on a few of our travel adventures, Blake (Hubs) is joining me in the fields and tents at Round Top. An artist himself in different mediums than me, I really enjoy his perspective when we’re “diving” through flea market tents, old buildings and consignment shops. He has also been known to show up at an Estate sale or two (but I didn’t tell you that).
Here are some images from previous adventures:
If you have gotten this far here is your reward, in addition to my first time tackling Round Top I am taking you along (in spirit) by way of a vintage décor request form and of course the usual social media shenanigans.
Yearning for something vintage? Need a touch of something special but not sure where to look? Let me look for you! The link below will take you to a request form where you can input one or multiple object categories that you have been on the hunt for. General request will be the easiest for small objects but for rugs, lighting and furniture let’s get some dimension & space details in there! I am so excited to connect with you and add to the story of your home with a unique piece. All pieces will surely come with a story and my hope that it connects you to your space and to others visiting in a meaningful way. Click the button below to get your request submitted!
